3 Books To Accelerate Your Professional Life
Since the Covi-19 has hit the world, almost everyone is ready with a speech on ‘why you should leave your job’ and follow your passion. But the question is ‘what if you are passionate about your job?”
I believe as long as your job is paying you well and you are doing the work you always wanted to, there is no need to follow the random advice that you see on the internet. However, my experience with the corporate world says that jobs can be toxic, bosses can be evil, colleagues can be competitive, and working hours can be hell if you don’t know how to manage your job and behave in the corporate world.
So, what is the solution? Because obviously, you wouldn’t want to be stuck at one position for the rest of your life. You want a promotion, appreciation from your boss and a healthy work culture, don’t you?
If you said, yes, I hear you.
3 Books To Accelerate Your Professional Life:
1. How To Enjoy Your Life And Your Job by Dale Carnegie:
There are total 24 hours in your day and on an average, you spend almost 8–9 hours at your work, then you need at least one hour to get ready for work and reach the office at time and one hour after the working hours to reach back to home and probably for hanging out with colleagues. All in all, you spend half of your day at work which means whatever happens at work will create its influence in your day-to-day personal life too.’
If you look around or in your life for that matter, you will realize how your job creates a positive/negative impact on your life. And the unfortunate reality is people are so consumed by their work that they forget to take some time out for themselves let alone for their loved ones which again creates more problems in life.
This book shows that anyone can achieve greater satisfaction in both their personal life and their professional/job by learning to integrate business, social and personal fulfillment. Here are few things that you will learn:
- Seven ways to find peace and happiness
- Fundamental techniques for handling people
- Ways to win people to your way of thinking
- Ways to change people without giving offense or arousing resentment
2. Attitude Is Your Superpower by Eduardo Clemente:
“Curiosity creates confidence”
The world is no longer a slow race, everyone is running fast to get to their destination. In such a scenario, when you step into the corporate world and start working as a working professional, you will come across many challenges. Not to say but corporate is that one race where every colleague of yours is running to get the top position.
Now, if you are a newbie or have no experience about how to behave in the corporate world then you might be that rabbit who can run fast but can’t win.
Attitude is your Superpower is one of its kind books that teaches us step by step how we can actually make an impact with our work without being rude, mean or competitive with others.
“The real goal is to understand the gap between how you see yourself and how others perceive you”
The book talks about how you can change your attitude in corporate, how you can make others like you without being cheesy, how you can achieve more, how you can make people respect you and your work and above all how you can excel your career among various other soft skills that are required to build a strong career.
People might say that a job is toxic but if you know how to handle the job, a job can be the most exciting thing to look forward to.
Some of the things that I learnt:
✅ Always under-promise and over deliver. When you say, ‘I might take 2 days to complete but ended up completing it in one day, that creates an impression.
✅ Volunteer to help because people like to be surrounded by those who are eager to try out new things and share a helping hand.
✅ Add value in whatever terms you can. Now, obviously, you are being paid for adding value not to add excuses.
✅ Understand other’s emotions while working because a little amount of sympathy can take you long way.
I liked the content of the book. Although I don’t have a job yet for Freelancing, I have to interact with many people and I think this book will help me to improve my relations. I would recommend you to read this if you work as a professional or you are planning to step into the corporate world.
