3 Books To Make You Mentally Tough And Strong
In this tough era, if you are not mentally tough, you will be easily fooled by others and any setback can cage you. Mental toughness helps you to keep going and stay strong even when all the circumstances are against you. Mental strength helps you to maintain peace within yourself no matter who says what, and who does what to you.
For such mental toughness, I started reading books because I was one such dumb girl who used to take everything personally. I was emotionally weak and had no clue exactly how to deal with people who do wrong to you. But, it’s after reading these 3books that my mind is as tough as a mountain. No one and nothing can hurt me anymore. Ohh, wait, am I sounding like David Goggins?
Jokes apart, let’s see how you can also become mentally tough and strong and mark my word, if you read any of these books, you will be unstoppable. However, I know very well that when given the choice to choose one to read, you will be confused, hence, you will delay the action. So, at the end, I will also tell you my favorite book among all these 3.
3 Books For Your Mental Toughness And Strength:
1. Can’t Hurt Me: If hell is really a thing, then David Goggins had experienced living hell as a child yet he chooses to come over all those past traumas and adverse situations. David Goggins, author of Can’t Hurt Me was not only poor but also fat. He was bullied and mocked. He then decided that he wants to change his life and now he is one of the world’s top endurance athletes.
Can’t Hurt Me , the name itself suggests that this book is all about how you can be so strong that no one can ever hurt you. David Goggins shares some of the toughest mind hacks that you can use to excel in whatever you do.
Here are 3 techniques that I really love:
a) Do one thing that makes you uncomfortable daily: Your mind is your greatest asset and liability depending on how you use it. There must be a few things in your life that you don’t like doing but they are important for your career, like studying, learning new skills or networking. This is where your mind plays games with you. Your mind just wants to relax and chill. David says when you do one thing that makes you uncomfortable, you become mentally tough and gain control over your mind. You let your mind know that YOU ARE THE BOSS AND YOU CAN DO ANYTHING.
“Pain unlocks a secret doorway in the mind, one that leads to both peak performance, and beautiful silence.”
b) The 40% Rule: David says that the only difference between ordinary and extraordinary people is that ordinary people only use 40% of their mind power. For example: You sit to study but just after 15 minutes, your mind says, common let’s rest and like a good slave you agree. Whereas successful people don’t care about what their mind says, they use their full potential. If you want to become mentally tough, you have to keep going even when you don’t feel like because that’s where you extend your capabilities. You then force yourself to bring the best out of you.
You are in danger of living a life so comfortable and soft, that you will die without ever realizing your true potential.
c) No one is coming to help you: The world is changing so rapidly that everyone is busy running some kind of race. In such a case, if you are waiting for someone to pick you, you are BETRAYING yourself. David says that your success, your dreams, your goals, and your struggles are your very own. When you fall, people will mock but you have to have enough belief in yourself that you get up again and achieve whatever you set your mind on. When David was a child, people used to mistreat him because of his color but now when he is successful, everyone praises him. That’s how the world functions. You have to take responsibility for your dreams.
I don’t stop when I’m tired. I stop when I’m done
2. The Power Of NOW: I have this weird habit of making an imaginary future where I have everything I ever wanted while sometimes I keep reliving past suffering again and again. I am quite sure; you can relate with me. By keep living in the future and the past, we all skip the present moment. In fact, 99% of our problems are mind made and created so unconsciously that we don’t even realize when we became the cause of our own problems.
The Power of Now is one such book that will take you on a journey of self-awareness where you meet yourself. The power of now highlights a version of you that is beyond your mind.
One of my favorite lessons from the book is using your mind as a tool. For example: When you need to send a message to someone, you use your phone then turn it off. Similarly, use your mind when necessary that too consciously and when you are done, switch it off. This is a state which various monks and meditation practitioners are trying to achieve.
“Accept — then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it. Make it your friend and ally, not your enemy. This will miraculously transform your whole life.”
I have already published an article on how your mind is manipulating you, you can read it here.
But if I could give everyone of you one book, I would have given this one.
3. The Power of Your Subconscious Mind: As a child, I was always compared as my marks were always average, and my skin color was quite dark back then. Honestly speaking, I don’t know how I used to look like, I just remember that everyone used to say that “you don’t look as good as your cousin sister, maybe if you were little fair then you would have looked better.”
The seed of doubt that people sowed in my mind as a child made me believe that I can never achieve anything nor do I look good. However, after reading The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, I realized what is wrong with me.
The Power of Your Subconscious Mind is the simplest version of what conscious and subconscious mind really means. The author says that your subconscious mind is like a Jeannie who takes your every order and makes it come true without any excuses. These orders are given by your conscious mind.
You must be thinking if it’s such a fairy tale then why do we suffer?
“The only path by which another person can upset you is through your own thought”
The answer lies in my story. When everyone told me I am ugly and dumb, I started believing in it and passed the same thing to my subconscious mind. My subconscious mind took it as an order and then no matter how much I studied, I never scored good marks because somewhere in my mind I knew that I am dumb.
In simple words, your mind is like a garden. Whatever you sow, you reap. However, if you are letting others spit and throw judgements and doubts in your garden (mind) then you will reap negativity in terms of adverse results.
Just to extend my story, if I may, I have more than 21k followers on Instagram. Yes, a girl who used to think she is dumb enough, now people are listening her. How? Simply because I broke the barriers that I myself set on my mind.
I was a co-chair in my college and also a topper that too just by studying 2 hours during exams. How? No, nothing magical happened. I just trained my subconscious mind and then like a good Jeannie, it made my desire come true.
I am not saying that totally impossible desires can come true or you wouldn’t have to work hard. You have to work but unlike before, results will be positive.
“Busy your mind with the concepts of harmony, health, peace, and good will, and wonders will happen in your life.”

My recommendations among these 3 books?
I like all three of them. However, if I had to recommend one book, I would request you to read The Power Of Now. But if you are a complete beginner in books and subconscious mind then I would suggest you to first read The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind and then shift to The Power Of Now for better understanding. Read these 2 books and you will thank me later for sure.
Also, if you would like to share any of your recommendations, I will be waiting!
