3 Small Habits That Are Changing My Life For Good & Why You Should Adopt Them Too
Let me admit it!
I am the laziest person you will ever meet yet if you look inside my head, you will see me building an empire for myself all day long. Contradictory, right?
Well, that’s how I was a few weeks before.
I am still lazier than you, that’s for sure and when it comes to building a habit, I feel like I am attacked.
However, that was it. I wanted to change my life so I made a decision. And that’s how I started 3 small habits that are changing the way I live my life and making me more calm, peaceful, and successful.
Let’s take a short trip to the 3 small habits I am building and why you should too:
1. Move Your Body:
Didn’t I tell you I am lazy? I was thinking of starting working on my physics for the past 1.5 years yet the timing was never perfect for me until 2 weeks ago when I was looking at myself in the mirror. Although, I am quite self-obsessed yet the person I saw in the mirror wasn’t someone I could love. That was seriously the moment when I sat back and asked myself, ‘Why am I not working on myself?’
From the very next day since then, the first thing I do in the morning is to move my body for 20 minutes either by doing Yoga or exercise, whatever I feel like doing (sometimes dancing as well). The plan is to move the body while enjoying the process as well.
In these two weeks, I have realized that I feel more energetic in the morning and I don’t need a big cup of coffee to keep me wide awake. Instead, now, I automatically feel enthusiastic and energetic throughout the day. In fact, most of my work gets done by 6 in the evening which means I have the rest of the time for myself to unwind and relax.
Why should you adopt this habit?
If you are like me who has those big plans but you’re lazy so the only place you do hard work is in your mind then moving your body daily can do wonders for you. Also, I am a big-time foodie + lazy which was making my body out of all the shapes, and if you can relate with me here then exercising and setting the target of moving your body will prove to be a blessing for you.
2. Keeping a Journal For Your Meals:
You must have heard about gratitude journals or to-do journals, right? But here is another kind of journal for people like me who don’t have any control over their taste buds.
I used to eat junk food all day long. That too when I had a misconception that I rarely eat junk food. This might be the case with you too. You might think that you rarely eat junk food but the reality might surprise you.
I started keeping a meal journal where I took the challenge of writing down everything I ate in a day. And guess what? My days were filled with chips, coffee, burgers, fries, and junk like this. After doing this challenge for just 10 days, I realized why I am over-shaping, and why I am always in a bad mood.
“Your meal decides your mood”
And after seeing my meal, I was sure that I don’t need a self-help book to become mentally strong, but rather a good meal.
Why Should You Try This Challenge?
I don’t know what you eat in a day or how often you eat junk food or what your current diet looks like but I challenge you to write down everything you eat in a day. As this will make you aware of eating habits like when you eat, what you eat, and most importantly while writing down it in a journal, you will come to know whether you eat when you are hungry or you eat just because you are bored and your tongue wants something to munch on.
Besides if you are like me, every time you write down what you are about to eat, there will be an invisible voice coming right from inside you to warn you.
3. Living a Slow Life:
I know the world is running at the fastest speed possible and even though you are trying your best, you might sometimes feel as if you are left behind. The growing popularity of social media and a new trend of becoming a millionaire at the age of 20 has surely made us relentless.
I was no different. I wanted to reach the 6-figure income group as soon as possible without thinking about what I am losing in this race. It happened. I got diagnosed with Migraine and now I can’t look at the computer screen for more than 3 hours straight. Initially, I was so sick that it was tough to even open my eyes. During those 3 days of complete bed rest, I realized that I want to take a break from this so-called ‘Hustle’ culture and enjoy every second of my life with as much love and joy as possible.
This doesn’t mean that I don’t want money or that I have let go of my goals but it surely means calling off the day at sharp 6 PM and dedicating the later part to meditation, journaling, going for a walk, reading, and spending time with family. Trust me, I have never left so alive as much as I do now.
Why Should You Try This?
The world is a busy place filled with people like you and me. The job that you are giving so much importance today can be easily replaced by someone more efficient than you once you make a little mistake. While in this precious life, your partner, your parents, your friends, and yourself who you are ignoring right now will not be able to replace you with someone more hard-working than you. Why don’t you take a break for yourself and enjoy every second of life with the slow and intentional living?
These 3 habits are seemingly easy to manage and adopt yet trust me, it takes self-love and discipline to keep up with them on a daily basis. I want you to choose yourself every single day, adopt these 3 habits and see how the world shifts.
