How I Am Planning to Unlock My Best Version in 2023 to Be Focused and Happy; How You Can Too
In the past 6 months, I have watched a bunch of videos on ‘how to be your best version’ or ‘how to be the main character of your life’ Why?
Because somewhere I know that I can do more and deserve more, but my laziness and mental fog are holding me back. And the worst thing is that I watch all these videos, feel good, and make big promises to myself but after a few days (or hours), I start behaving like I am lost in my thoughts and cursing myself for not being consistent enough.
Now that I sit back and analyze why I wasn’t able to follow any of those motivational videos, I realize that ‘how can I be MY best version by dreaming, and following someone else’s definition of the best version’
I am not blaming or questioning the worth of any video I watched. But do you think that by following someone else’s footsteps, you can reach your destination?
Well, that’s where all the problem comes from. You and I are so innocent (or stupid) that we don’t even think about what we want. We just see a great YouTube video or read a book about how you can live your best life or unlock your best version. We see how the person was first broke, then they applied ‘these exclusive 5 techniques’ and now they are living their best life. Ohh wow! What a trap!
The reality is no one knows the exact hacks/techniques that can help you in living a fairytale but they can surely sell you the idea that if you do what they did then you can be a fairy in your little dreamland. And I am not sorry if that sounds harsh because this is the truth.
We are so blinded by how others have achieved success that we don’t even check in with ourselves WHAT DO WE WANT REALLY? & HOW CAN WE HAVE IT?
It’s really that simple. You don’t need me, a bestselling author or a Youtuber to tell you how you can be happy, focused, or successful. You need YOU. You need to check with yourself about what you want and how you can have it. But no! You do the exact opposite. You pick up cherries from other’s life, make them your dreams and work hard to achieve them. And this leads to two things:
- The process becomes so miserable that you start doubting your worth. The process becomes the worst nightmare of your life because you were trying to live someone else’s dreams. When you burn yourself out for a goal that you never set from within, it automatically makes you sad and depressed.
- Even if you achieve that goal, you don’t find yourself dancing with happiness like a 5-year-old. Because you lost everything for what you never wanted in the first place.
So, what’s the solution to this giant trap that you and I are stuck in without our conscious knowledge?
Well, let’s see:
1. Travel Inwards & Create a Vision Board:
If I ask you what your dream life looks like, what would be your answer?
Don’t answer in a blink. Take your time and tell yourself the exact details you see when you imagine yourself living the best life you can create. I bet you wouldn’t be able to do so and even if you do, the details of your dream life would be a reflection of what you have seen in the external world.
Well, that’s the problem. You always complain that life is unfair to you and that things don’t turn out as you want them to. But let me ask you this, are you fair to life?
You have the gift of imagining the BEST for yourself but what do you imagine? The only thing I know is that we cannot have what we don’t dream of. So, I am begging you to take a pause, and forget everything, including your past and future. Sit with your inner being and ask yourself how you want to live your life. What do you want in life? What does your BEST LIFE look like?
Once you know the answer, create a vision board for yourself. And don’t worry making Vision Board has never been easy but I have something for you. There are so many distractions in our external world that no matter how smart you are, you will get lost in the shine of what people have.
It happens to me all the time. For one year I didn’t buy anything to be a minimalist but as soon as the challenge ended, I found myself drowning in the desire of buying more clothes. When fashion influencers share ‘the must-have wardrobe items’, I find myself making the payment. Why? Because you cannot be a spy on your brain. You cannot keep your brain controlled every second of the day.
And that’s why it is extremely important to remind yourself of your choices, your dream life, and your values or you will be lost in the ocean of other’s lifestyles.
To do so, I affirm what I want to be every morning and night. Affirmations that remind me of my values so that I can become mentally strong enough. But what I do care about the most is how I feel. I made it a point to do at least one thing every day that is pure bliss and joy to my heart. Sure, some people were a pain in my ass but you have got to have your own back so that no matter how hard your day was, you can always come back to yourself to feel peace and joy.
How can you do that?
Well, start with journaling first. Record your progress as well as your emotions. Write down what you feel, and why you feel that way. Basically vomit everything that you are feeling before it builds up stronger. When you pour down your emotions, you get a sense of clarity and you also feel light as if someone has lifted up a heavy weight from your heart.
So, no matter how your day was or how you feel, make sure you JOURNAL. And don’t wait until night to write down your thought or you will forget what you had in mind. Write whenever you feel like it.
