I Read 7 Books In February 2022 And Here Is My Book Of The Month
People always ask me how do you read so fast? And I think curiosity is quite common as reading 7 books in a month seems like I just skim through the books, right?
The only mantra of reading 7 books in a month is when people waste their time on Instagram reel, binge-watch Netflix or simply gossip, I read. I read almost 3–3.5 hours in a day and that made me complete 7 books in a month, it is as simple as it sounds.
Besides, reading is more like therapy to me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed by all the work pressure or negative thoughts, I just pick the book and the worldly problems disappear for me.
Now, let’s explore the 7 books I read, what I have learnt from those books and what was the book of the month.
7 Books I Read In February 2022:
1. Start With Why:
Before I started reading Start With Why, I had an assumption that this is going to be another boring self-help book. I thought yeah, yeah, I know having WHY is important. But Start With Why changed my perception on the power of WHY. The author discusses about finding your unique Why and working on it by using HOW and WHAT.
“People don’t buy what you do, they buy why do it”
For example: Do you think there is any brand that can stand tall against Apple? None, right? Apple’s products are comparatively more expensive than any other laptop/mobile brand yet people prefer Apple over anything else? WHY? Because when Steve Jobs founded Apple, he had a clear and unique Why. He wanted to challenge the world and make art with his product. His unique WHY led him to work on the hidden part of laptop/mobile as perfectly as on visible parts. And that was his WHAT.
If I share my own experience with this, honestly, I felt bored at times due to the unnecessary examples. I felt that the author is more like a brand ambassador of Apple and has linked every brand’s success with his perception.
However, I also learned a great lesson from this book and that is no matter how perfectly you copy others, if you don’t have your own WHY to back you, people will smell it. In fact, after reading this book, I realized that I have to find my unique WHY, something that is my very own because only that can take me where I want to reach.
All of us have this common belief somehow that “world is getting worse” each day. Though, there is nothing wrong with it. Humans have been given the most beautiful planet to live and enjoy the beauty of mother nature. But what have we done to it?
Global warming, natural disaster, and what not?
In fact, humans are fighting against each other in the name of religion, caste, color, land etc.
Among all these things, it’s common to believe that the previous generation had a better life. And the world is now getting worse! However, Factfulness is a big slap on our face to wake us up from our illusionary world.
Factfulness stands true by its name and shares reasons with stats to back that the world is actually getting better. Child literacy rate, women education, child life expectancy has increased dramatically in the past decade. Whereas, crime, and poverty are decreasing. This may come as a shock after listening all those horrible rape cases but that’s what the truth is.
3. Can’t Hurt Me:
People say there is an afterlife and as per your Karma, you receive hell or heaven. But as a child, David Goggins suffered living hell, he was bullied, mocked on and tortured by his own father. He was fat, ugly, poor and mentally broken.
But after suffering enough, he decided to change his life. He wanted to get into the military but due to his size, he was rejected and after that David worked on himself day and night. Now, he is one of the world’s top endurance athletes. How did he go from zero to hero?
David says that life is generally a mental game and most of the time, we are playing it against ourselves. In his book, Can’t Hurt Me, David shares 10 challenges that will make you mentally strong and tough so that nothing and no one can ever HURT you.
I have discussed the 3 challenges here, you can challenge yourself right now if you are serious about changing your life.
Written by the Hollywood sensation, Matthew McConaughey is an actor who has converted his diary into a book and unfolded his entire life in Greenlights. I don’t think any of my words would do justice to the beauty of this book but if there is one biography that you should definitely read then it is Greenlights.
“When you can, ask yourself if you want to before you do”
Matthew shares his raw side in his book and shares how he followed a wet dream blindly that changed his entire life. Often we ignore the intuitions or dreams that can be life-changing for us because we all are living our lives on automatic mode. But Matthew proves how your intuition plays a vital role in your success.
I heard somewhere that, “things that excite you are not random, they are connected to your purpose”
However, sometimes we are so busy in our daily lives that these things are ignored. When Matthew shares about his wild journey of chasing a dream and becoming one of the best actors in Hollywood, I felt that yes, man I am in this world to do something big, I need to build the connection with my deeper self to listen to my inner voice and chase success.
If you are someone who wants to read books but find it boring or nearly impossible to complete a book, Greenlights is the best book for you. The writing style of the author is simple, smooth yet so deep that you may drown at times.
5. Win Your Inner Battles:
As the name itself suggests, Win Your Inner Battles is all about how you can get rid of the inner negative voice that tries to win over you. Research shows that most of our thoughts are negative which creates unnecessary stress and stress creates diabetes, mental weakness and many other diseases.
“Make sure your worst enemy doesn’t live between your two ears”
In this book, the author shares how you can,
- Overcome your fear
- Become confident
- Set small goals and their importance
Although this is quite a simple and small book, I found some of the chapters extremely repetitive. I believe there is nothing new in this book and the solution of every problem finishes just when you start understanding it. There are many other great books to read on how to overcome fear that this book didn’t stand out for me.
6. Reminders Of Him:
I believe fiction books can teach you more at times than any self-help book. Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover is one such book that will tear your heart apart and leave you sobbing.
It’s a story of a mother, Kenna, who is trying to get a glimpse of her 5-year-old daughter after spending 5 years in Jail for killing her boyfriend. Her boyfriend, Scotty was the kind, happy, and beautiful soul who could find good even in evil.
How can someone kill such a kind soul? Or wait!
Did anyone hear Kenna’s story? Did someone sit beside her and ask her what exactly happened? Did she spend 5 years in jail even when she was innocent?
Well, nothing really matters to Kenna now. A mother wants to see her daughter that too for the first time but Soctty’s parents don’t want that.
This is one of the most beautiful books that I have read. It not only teaches you that every coin has two sides but also how sometimes no one is wrong, it’s the situation and time that plays the game.
I cried like a 5 year old who can’t find her mother after reading about a mother’s pain.
The book is not only about a mother’s story but also a beautiful love story that you can’t forget about in years to come. I would request you to please read this book and I am sure you will thank me later.
7. Unf*ck Yourself:
Well, we all want to achieve success, don’t we? But the problem is we don’t want to do hard work. Oh wait! Actually we do but only in our mind. Unf*ck Yourself helps us to get out of our mind and into our life by some simple yet practical techniques which are:
- Use Assertive language: Instead of saying that I will do it, I am going to wake up early, say I don’t sleep late anymore, I have switched to a healthy lifestyle. Assertive language brings real life effects by putting your enthusiasm and energy right in the moment.
“Assertive language doesn’t put things off for the future but in the very moment.”
- I am willing: We all want to choose hard work over Netflix but how many times does it really happen? Almost never! That’s just because deep down you don’t want to leave your comfort zone. We just listen to powerful motivational podcasts or read books like Can’t Hurt Me and start thinking that we can do anything. The thought is certainly great but this kind of motivation remains only for a few hours or days and then we are back to our previous lifestyle.
This happens because somehow we all have agreed upon the fact that watching Netflix is wrong or taking a nap is wrong. The reality is all those motivational gurus want to make us a productivity robot but you are a human and you can’t be everything. Hence,
“Before starting any work, you must ask yourself, Am I willing?”
If you really want to read a book, you will do it and if not, no matter how many times you read about the reading benefits, you wouldn’t be able to pick the book. Willingness is what matters and they don’t teach you about WILL POWER.
Book Of The Month:
The book of the month is Reminders Of Him. As I said, this book has more to teach you than most self-help books. It helps you to become,
- More mature
- Understand others perception
- Don’t be so quick to judge others
- Realize the power of family, love and closed ones in your life and
I am delighted to read all these 7 books because in one way or the other, all these books helped me improve and build my mental strength. I would love to hear from you about your book of the month.
