The Fight to Be Kind in a Self-Centered Culture; Daring to Give a Damn
It has become a cool thing to say ‘I don’t give a damn.’
Okay honey, so you don’t give a damn. Do you want a medal for that? Do you think depriving yourself of feeling the slightest bit of emotions for others makes you cool?
No, it doesn’t!
It just sends a signal in your mind that — you don’t have someone so good in your life for whom you are ready to put everything at stake.
When you say, I don’t care, I don’t give a damn, and I don’t need anyone, you are basically affirming that — you are fine being with YOU so much so that if someday the entire population evaporates, you will be just fine.
That’s not cool. That’s destructive.
Since the start of civilization, our society has thrived on one principle — looking after one another. Being there for one another. Sharing what you have with those who are struggling.
If that sounds triggering to you, I am sorry but you have successfully subscribed to the ‘self-centered’ culture where one doesn’t care about anyone who cannot give them something in return. And that is called business not relationship.
